Man now misinterprets freedom as independence. Satan’s lie was to trick man into believing that to be independent of God was to be “free.” But there is no such thing as freedom. We are all slaves, either to Christ or to Satan.
There is no such thing as freedom.
We are all slaves of Christ or Satan (and we are free to choose!)
Doesn't this sound awfully like the motto of the Party found in George Orwell's novel 1984 ?
War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength.
The above motto combined with "doublethink" creates a new reality in which all things are true:
Adam was created only a little lower than God (Psalm 8:5), as a free spiritual being. A responsible moral agent with a thinking mind and powers of choice and action, able to commune with God and respond to him, he could love and worship God—or if not, as he chose. Man could rebel against God. And the tragedy for the human race is that Adam and his wife, tempted by the serpent, did just that. Man, with such a golden start, used his freedom to turn against his Creator.
We are free spiritual beings, but there is no such thing as freedom.
Humans had freedom in the beginning, but used the freedom to rebel, hence there is no such thing as freedom and we were never free, which means it was all God's fault, except that it was our fault., for we were free.
The headache one gets while the mind tries to find a reason for such an irrational way of arguing is relieved when having read 1984, it all suddenly makes sense. The only people who need to use "doublethink" are the people who attempt to control people by altering their sense of reality. Injustice becomes justice, inequality becomes equality, leading becomes serving, privilege becomes a right, until eventually people learn to accept inequality and injustice as a natural part of their lives. It is inevitable, for when the meaning of words is altered and things are said to be true and untrue at the same time, people will accept nearly anything they are told however illogical it may sound and what it causes them do to themselves and others.
"There is no freedom!"
"You sinned freely!"
"God wants me to do this!"
"God never asked you to do that!"
There is an explanation for any and all things, however illogical the explanation, and in the process the believer slips further and further away from God as he/she descends deeper into the surreal reality that has little to do with what God wants us to do.
Although designed to control people, eventually the creators of "doublethink" become victims of their own altered minds as seen in the downfall of Mark Driscoll, the lawsuit again Doug Phillips, the exposure of Josh Duggard. These men began to believe in their own rhetoric, their own power and invisibility. But although they lived in the altered world they had created and others had helped them create, the rest the world didn't and still doesn't share their world, which led to their downfall and falling from grace. The only way to keep the alternative reality going is through isolation and denial. Logic has no place in this reality, wherefore all logically minded people become enemies. Neither does questions, hence the silencing of people who ask questions. Obey, smile, and say, "Praise God!" and you're okay. Ask questions, doubt and say, "Where is that in the Bible?" and you're kicked out before you were able to finish the sentence. "Doublespeak" cannot accept a challenge, for it is built on quicksand - the more you move the quicker you sink - whereas reality is like an anchor that keeps us grounded.
Some will never return to the real world, but others do, as seen in the case of Joshua Harris.
Pretty awesome, isn't it?
"Doublespeak" can be overcome, but only though humility and acceptance of the value and worth of all humans, for unmerited privilege lies behind the altered reality that keeps us all second-guessing our own minds. If you truly believe you can know absolutely that you can't know anything absolutely, then why not believe that God didn't make the man smarter than the woman although God did make the man smarter than the woman, which is why he should have all authority. If left is right, and right is to the left of right, then anything goes, especially in theology. But we don't have to accept it, we shouldn't accept it, for we have minds that can accept and handle reality, and it's where we should all remain.
